Presentation
The ultimate expression of the Aÿ terroir, the Blanc de Noirs single-vineyard cuvées celebrate the vision of the House’s founder. Facing due south, “La Côte Glacière” is a plot situated just a couple of hundred feet from its neighbour “Meurtet,” planted on a spectacular 25% slope. Its old vines produce wines with a remarkable solar intensity. A majestic expression of the complexity of the great Pinot Noirs of Aÿ, combining opulence with elegance.
The Spirit of the Cuvée
There are places that seem destined for the vine. La Côte Glacière is one of them. Single-vineyard, single-varietal Blanc de Noirs cuvée (100% Pinot Noir), La Côte Glacière is the solar sister to Meurtet: the same lineage, a distinct terroir. Today, Deutz is its sole steward of this remarkable hillside. Facing due south on a slope of up to 25%, this 4.7-acre plot—whose oldest vines have stood since 1967—draws its strength from a subsoil of chalk blocks. A remarkably rare feature in Champagne, it gives the site an exceptional patrimonial character. Despite the “icy” connotation of its name, this parcel expresses the sunny generosity of Aÿ Pinot Noir.
Crafting the Cuvée
Crafted exclusively from Pinot Noir, La Côte Glacière reveals the distinctive character of some of Maison Deutz’s oldest vines, where the terroir finds its most intense expression.
The 2019 vintage is distinguished by its power, freshness and elegance, unveiling a wine of remarkable complexity and expression. The richness of ripe fruit intertwines with delicate chalky minerality, reflecting the finesse and singular character of the Aÿ terroir.
On the La Côte Glacière plot, the south-facing aspect allowed the Pinot Noir to ripen to perfection, producing grapes of great concentration.

Hommage à William Deutz, La Côte Glacière 2019
The bright golden hue is carried by bubbles of great finesse. The nose expresses itself with intensity, revealing spicy notes, juicy red and yellow fruits, and floral hints of wisteria. On the palate, the attack is ample and enveloping, driven by an immediate freshness, with generous fruit expression (blackcurrant, blackberry jelly). The finish, almost heady and persistant, unfolds with an elegant salinity that brings balance and lift.

Duck breast with pink peppercorns, duck à l’orange.A wine of great concentration, rich yet lifted by an airy dimension, La Côte Glacière 2019 calls for French gastronomy character. The juicy flesh of the duck finds a natural echo in the wine’s depth, whilst the pink peppercorns highlight its aromatic complexity. The delicate bitterness and citrus freshness of the duck à l’orange resonate with the vintage’s tension, creating a finely balanced pairing.
