Crafted four-handed

16 October 2026

When Michel Davesne handed over the keys of the House's cellars to Caroline Latrive in 2023, he passed on a legacy patiently shaped over the years.

Yet their shared story began long before this handover.

In the late 1990s, their paths first crossed in Champagne's wineries. Over time, a relationship grew, founded on mutual respect, trust and a shared passion for oenology.

The years passed.

From 2003 to 2023, Michel Davesne guided the identity of Deutz Champagnes, affirming that pursuit of balance, depth and harmony which defines the House style.

When the question of succession arose, Caroline Latrive emerged as the natural choice. Her experience, her understanding of Champagne's terroirs and her sensitivity made her the obvious heir to this living legacy.

For fourteen months, the two oenologists worked side by side. Together, they tasted the House's wines, revisited past vintages, exchanged perspectives, and shared both convictions and, at times, doubts.

Little by little, a shared language emerged.

A way of reading terroirs.

Of understanding wines.

Of anticipating their evolution.

Sometimes, a glance was enough.

To the legacy entrusted by Michel Davesne, Caroline Latrive brings a particular focus on purity of balance, luminosity in blending and the most faithful expression of each terroir.

That spirit of transmission finds a tangible expression in the Brut Classic crafted from the 2022 harvest.

Crafted four-handed, the cuvée embodies both the culmination of a shared endeavour and the opening of a new chapter. Two generations of oenologists united by a common ambition: preserving the identity of Deutz while carrying it forward.

For nearly two centuries, this is how the House has moved forward. Faithful to itself, carried by those who, generation after generation, take care to pass on far more than a body of expertise: a certain vision of wine, of time and of Champagne.
